When one enters the final of any major sporting event, the nerves and the burden of doing well hangs heavily on an individual. However, if the same person can overcome that and put in a magnificent performance that defines a career, then he has entered the big league. This is what happened to Pawan Sehrawat when he scored 22 points in season six of the Pro Kabaddi League as he helped Bengaluru Bulls beat Gujarat Fortunegiants to help them win the title. This was just the beginning for Sehrawat and he went on to become one of the best players in the seventh edition of the tournament.

In fact, such was Sehrawat’s brilliance was such that he finished the season as the league’s top scorer with an astonishing 353 points. However, the Bulls fell short to the table toppers Dabang Delhi in the semi-final. It was a record-breaking season for Sehrawat, where he scored 29 points in one game against Bengal Warriors which is the third highest in Pro Kabaddi League history. However, in one game against Haryana Steelers, Sehrawat scored 39 points which is the most by any raider in a single game in the history of Pro Kabaddi Legue beating Pardeep Narwal’s record of 34 raid points which he scored against Haryana Steelers in season five.

Better things to come

His ability to surprise the defenders with his long reach and lower body strength, make him one of the best raiders in the Pro Kabaddi League. Sehrawat’s ability to score big is amply displayed by the fact that he led season six in terms of Super Raids with 12 to his name, twice those of third-placed Pardeep Narwal. Sehrawat also became one of the raiders to cross the 250-raid-point mark in season six. With class, skill and the ability to turn matches around singlehandedly, Sehrawat’s raiding masterclasses have definitely been one of the highlights.

In 2018, he was voted as one of the most valuable players in the Pro Kabaddi League. Sehrawat’s confidence was also on show when they won the South Asian Games gold medal in 2019 when he said, “The competition wasn’t that much. Bar one (Bangladesh), we beat all teams by 40-plus [20-plus] points. Our team was very strong and the coaches were spoilt for choice in the raiders department. So a strong team weakened the competition even further,” Sehrawat said. Now, that is confidence.
