Manjeet Chillar is a nightmare when it comes to raiders in Kabaddi. He can tackle brilliantly, defend like a brick wall and when the need comes, he can also be a raider himself and take the opponent by surprise. The all-round package that Chillar brings to the table in Kabaddi makes him a rare proposition among all Kabaddi players in the country. It took a nose injury for Chillar to make the shift from wrestling to Kabaddi. The change worked and Chillar has become the ultimate Kabaddi player who has won laurels both in the domestic and in the international level.

Born in 1986 in Nizampur, Chillar was first spotted in professional Kabaddi during the 2010 Asian Games. However, few at that time realised the amount of accolades that he would garner on the international stage. Chillar s a gold medalist in the National Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He has also won gold at the Asian Indoor games in 2009 and the 2010 Asian games and he also claimed bronze at the 2012 Asian Beach Games.

Chillar’s international resume is brilliant. He is part of two gold medal winning teams in the Asian Games in Guangzhou and Incheon in 2010 and 2014 while he also won the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup. In 2018, he also secured the gold medal in the Dubai Kabaddi Masters and his brilliance resulted in the Government of India awarding him the Arjuna Award for his contributions.

Stellar Achievements

In the Pro Kabaddi League, Chillar started out for the Bengaluru Bulls before being bought by Puneri Paltan. In the fifth season of the Pro Kabaddi League, Chillar became the captain of the Jaipur Pink Panthers. Currently, he is with the Tamil Thalaivas. Chillar has played a total of 74 matches and has a total of 455 points, which includes most points of 14 in a single game.

Chillar has a total of 700 raids, scoring 220 raid points, five super raids and two super 10s are also in his tally. The prolific all-rounder not only has amazing attack statistics but his defensive scores are even better. Chillar has made 540 tackles scoring 302 points the most by any player in the Pro Kabaddi League. He also shares the record of most High 5s in the league which is of 21. Manjeet has an astonishing tackle success rate of 55.92 percent.

An all-rounder is an asset in any sport. For the sport of Kabaddi, due to its various skillsets, an all-rounder is a rarity. However, Chillar fits the bill perfectly and it is no wonder that he is a legend in the true sense.
