A father’s decision to spend ₹64,000 on IPL tickets instead of paying his daughters’ school fees has ignited controversy online. Despite criticism, he defended his choice, citing the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch MS Dhoni play live. “I couldn’t secure the tickets through regular means, so I purchased them from a scalper for a total of ₹64,000. I still have pending school fees to pay, but the opportunity to see MS Dhoni play live was something my three daughters and I couldn’t pass up,” the father shared with Sportwalk Chennai.

“My father worked really hard to get these tickets. We were overjoyed when Dhoni took to the field,” expressed one of his daughters enthusiastically. Donning yellow CSK jerseys, the father and his daughters joined in the iconic CSK fan tradition of blowing whistles. However, some on the internet were critical of the father’s decision not to prioritize paying his daughters’ school fees.

“A cricket match shouldn’t take precedence over children’s education. Let’s not glorify this,” commented an Instagram user.

“I’m speechless at the lack of judgment here,” remarked Urologist Dr. Jaison Philip on X (formerly Twitter).

“His children will cherish these memories and appreciate the efforts their father made to create them. He’ll find a way to manage the school fees. Perhaps he made a calculated decision before purchasing the tickets,” suggested X user M. Srinivasan.

In the IPL match held in Chennai on Monday, Chennai Super Kings secured a seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, propelling them to the fourth spot in the standings. While CSK started the season with two wins, they faced defeats in their subsequent away matches against Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Former CSK captain MS Dhoni, who stepped down from his role in March 2022, has led the team to victory in the IPL five times and has taken them to the finals on 10 occasions. Dhoni’s leadership legacy continues to inspire fans and players alike, even beyond his tenure as captain.
