Sentosa Golf Club is ready for a stellar event as 66 players will be competing in the 2024 HSBC Women’s World Championship to secure the purse of $1.8 million. However, their biggest hurdle would be the two-time defending champion, Jin Young Ko. But stars like Lydia Ko and Patty Tavatanakit will also be the centre of attention.

The other is Inbee Park who won this tournament in 2015 and 2017. Heading into this year’s tournament Ko is the 53rd in the Race to CME Globe standings and the field to defend her back-to-back wins. Park is not in the field this week, but seven of the top 10 players in the standings this season are all in contention to try and dethrone Ko. On the other hand, the Indian challenge will be led by India’s number one golfer Aditi Ashok.

Over the years, this event has earned the reputation of the Asia Major, thanks to only Asian players winning it. Coupled with the fact that HSBC reduced the purse of this event, not many US golfers are looking forward to it.

Jessica Korda is not playing this year; she unfortunately finished at the bottom last year. But she has her reasons not to play. Her sister, Nelly Korda, finished second last year but is not competing this year. Furthermore, Lexi Thompson has not played here since 2019.

However, players like world number one Lilia Vu, Minjee Lee, and more are still arriving at the Sentosa Golf Club. Naturally, this year’s Women’s World Golf Championship proves to be exciting and entertaining like last year’s. However, with the Paris Olympics around the corner, there might be new golfers who can spring into action to break the Korean dominance.
