Slavia Prague will host Dnipro-1 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualification round at the Fortuna Arena on Thursday. The hosts maintained their 100% record in the Czech top flight with a 2-1 win over Zlin on Sunday. Jindrich Trpisovsky’s side have won their opening three wins in the 1. Liga games. Slavia Prague edged out Hradec Kralove, Dynamo Ceske Budejovice and Zlin respectively. Slavia have now won 13 of their last 14 competitive home games. The only esxception in this is the draw against Hradec Kralove in April.
Dnipro, meanwhile, would have hoped for a more positive start to their new campaign. However, they were dumped out of the Champions League qualifiers following a 5-3 aggregate defeat to Panathinaikos. After a 3-1 first-leg loss, Oleksandr Kucher’s men could only salvage a 2-2 draw in their bid to the highest level of European football. However, fortunes have changed for Dnipro-1 since then. The Ukranian side piled up a 2-1 win over Polissya Zhytomyr at the Avanhard Stadium on Saturday in the Ukrainian Premier League.
Thursday’s game is very crucial for both the clubs. It will be the last shot for either of them to stay in contention for European football competition this season.
