Atletico Madrid will be bidding to extend their winning streak to five games in the La Liga when they travel to Estadio de Vallecas on Sunday night to take on Rayo Vallecano. The visitors are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over fellow top-four challengers Real Betis last Monday, while Vallecano were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-battlers Valencia. At the time of writing, Atletico are occupying third spot in the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 54 points from 27 games, just five points adrift of second-placed Real Madrid, who have played 28 matches. The hosts, meanwhile, are sitting at the ninth position, with 37 points to their name, eight shy of the top six.

Los Vallecanos are going through bit of a rough patch, having not tasted victory in their last seven matches. Last time out, the Red Stripes took an early lead inside the opening nine minutes through Santi Comesnana, but Valencia eualised through Juston Kluivert’s 82nd-minute penalty-kick to share the spoils at Mastalla. Vallecano’s ninth and last league-win of the season came against Almeria (2-0) at the start of February courtesy of Rodrygo Ely’s 53rd-minute own goal and Alvaro Rivera’s effort on the hour-mark. Andoni Iraola’s side have picked up 20 points from their 13 home-matches in the top flight this season.
Atletico, on the other hand, have been pretty solid in their away fixtures in the league this term, having recorded eight wins, three draws and two defeats from their 13 games on the road. Diego Simeone’s side secured all three points against sixth-placed Betis last time out, courtesy of Angel Correa’s lone goal four minutes from time. The resulted extended Los Colchoneros’ unbeaten streak to 11 games in the La Liga, winning seven of those, while keeping six clean sheets and conceding only three goals in the process. Meanwhile, the reverse fixture at Wanda Metropolitano in October last year ended in a 1-1 draw after Alvaro Morata’s 20th-minute opener was canceled out by Radamel Falcao two minutes into the injury time.
