Giorgio Chiellini

Giorgio Chiellini is an Italian defender who captains the Serie A giants, Juventus and the Italian national team. He was born in Pisa, Italy but spent most of his growing years in Livorno. The 37 year old defender began his football career with his boyhood club Livorno in 2000 then followed by Fiorentina. In 2005, Chiellini started his beautiful journey with Juventus after he was recalled from Fiorentina by Fabio Capello. Juventus signed a contract with Chiellini for 4.3million euros making him a regular starter for the team.

 The partnership of Bonucci and Chiellini is said to be one of the greatest defensive pair in world football. The duo has complemented each other for many years and won titles for Juventus and at international level. They have made 335 appearances together for Juventus and Italy.

On field, Chiellini is an aggressive and a physically strong defender and will go to any extreme to win the game. He has this warrior mentality and takes the center stage without holding back when leading the team.

Livorno: Chiellini started his career at Livorno at a very young age and played there for 10 years. For the longest time he was not sure about his position switching from a central midfielder to a winger. After a few games of experimenting different positions, he got comfortable with the left back position and is now the leading man in the defensive lineup.

Italy: Giorgio Chiellini made his debut for Italy on 17 November 2004 at the age of 20 against Finland. He scored his first goal for the national team on 21 November 2007 against Faroe Island in Euro Qualifying match in 2008. After 2007, he was a regular starter for the Italian side and wore the captains arm band for the first time in 2012. 

Notable Statistics

In his first season as a Juventus player, he helped the team their 29^th scudetto which later was given to Inter Milan due to the Calciopoli scandal. Chiellini scored 2 goals in a 5-1 victory at Arezzo which helped Juventus win the Serie B title and getting promoted to Serie A.

 In that season Juventus scored over 80 goals conceding only 30 goals. Chiellini went on to win many more titles for Juventus and is regarded as a club legend.
