Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has joined French giants Paris St Germain (PSG) from Spanish club FC Barcelona on a free transfer. However, the 34-year-old has decided to pursue a new challenge which will certainly leave fans quite excited. Messi will be seen linking up with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at PSG with fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino the manager.

The 34-year-old could very well be the final piece of the puzzle to bring a maiden Champions League title to the French capital. PSG have had a very good summer transfer window. They have already managed to sign Achraf Hakimi and Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. PSG further have Euro 2020 winners Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma in their side. This is undoubtedly the club’s best squad in history on paper.

Barcelona’s shocking announcement over Lionel Messi’s exit

The footballing world was sent into a frenzy a few days ago when Barcelona announced that Messi would be leaving the club ahead of the new season. Financial restrictions by La Liga crippled the Catalan club’s wage structure and left them in a very tough position. As a result, Messi was forced to bid his final farewell to a club which he loved with all his heart.

Messi is regarded as the most talented footballer of all time, and even the greatest ever by several. He holds several records both at the club and international level. The footballer started his career at Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys, before moving to Barcelona. Messi won 35 trophies and scored 672 goals, the most by any player in the Spanish club’s history.

Messi’s teary farewell to FC Barcelona

The Argentine superstar bid a tearful farewell to Barcelona in an emotional press conference at the Camp Nou. Messi revealed that he tried everything to stay, but it was ultimately not possible, leaving him with no choice but to depart the club.

“I don’t know what to stay. These recent days I’ve been thinking about what I can say. The truth is that I can’t think of anything. This is really difficult for me after so many years. I’ve been here all my life. I’m not ready for this and honestly last year with all the nonsense with the burofax and everything I was convinced I knew what to say but this year is not the same,” said the footballer.

“I’ve been here since I was 13. After 21 years I’m leaving with my wife, with my three little Catalan-Argentine kids. I’m just really grateful for everything to all my teammates, my former teammates, everyone at the club, who has been by my side, all the people, there are so many people. I thank everyone for the love I’ve had to live so many experiences, so many beautiful things that have happened. I offered to reduce my contract by 50% and they asked for nothing else. The news of me asking 30% more is a lie. A lot of what people are saying are not true. We did everything we could and it wasn’t possible,” added Messi.
