Tottenham Hotspur is set to continue their preparations for the upcoming 2023-24 Premier League season with a match against Leicester City, who are currently a Championship team, in Bangkok on Sunday. Spurs kicked off their pre-season with a 3-2 loss to their rivals West Ham United on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Leicester started their summer friendlies with a 1-0 win against Northampton Town last weekend and followed it up with a victory against OG Leuven in a training-ground match on Wednesday.
Last season’s unexpected relegation from the Premier League came as a shock for Leicester, as they managed to gather only 34 points from 38 matches, finishing 18th and dropping into the Championship. Now, with Enzo Maresca, the former Manchester City assistant, at the helm, Leicester is considered one of the top contenders to win the second-tier league this season. With only two more friendlies scheduled against Tottenham and Liverpool, Leicester will soon kick off their Championship campaign with an attention-grabbing home game against Coventry City on August 6.
In their first pre-season match, Tottenham engaged in an exciting five-goal contest with their bitter rivals, West Ham, in Perth. Spurs initially fell behind by two goals early in the game, but they made a comeback as Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie, who came off the bench, leveled the scores. However, West Ham secured a late victory with Gianluca Scamacca’s goal, finishing the match with a 3-2 win at Optus Stadium. Ahead of their 2023-24 Premier League opener against Brentford on August 13, Ange Postecoglou’s team has a series of matches lined up against Leicester, Lion City Sailors, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Barcelona.
