Hyderabad FC have completed the signing of midfielder Khassa Camara from NorthEast United FC on a short-term deal till the end of the 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL) season, the club announced on Saturday. The 29-year-old joins HFC as a free agent and replaces Edu Garcia in the squad. Garcia had to return home urgently because of personal reasons and has parted ways with HFC. Manuel Marquez’s side are currently placed on top of the league standings with 29 points from 16 games.

“I am very happy to join Hyderabad FC and it is a pleasure to be a part of this fantastic club this season,” said Camara in a release.

He has more than 40-plus appearances for Mauritania and was a part of the squad for the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations. Having started his career in France with Troyes, Camara moved to the ISL in 2020 after spending four years with Greek Super League side Xanthi.

The 29-year-old made 21 appearances for NEUFC in the previous season and played a pivotal role in Khalid Jamil’s side reaching the play-off’s. This season, the Highlanders have been struggling, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 10 points from 16 games. Camara has played just seven times this campaign before being called up by his national side.

Camara already has a ISL goal to his name this season and vows to give his best for the Nizams in this business end of the season.

“There is not much time but I will try my best to help Hyderabad achieve our targets this season. Whenever the coach needs me, I will try to contribute in the best way possible that I can,” said Camara.

“Our team has done really well so far this season and the plan is to continue the good work and help the team with my qualities on and off the field,” he added.

Camara is a no-nonsense defensive midfielder who is very good at holding on to the ball and retaining ball possession. He sits in front of the backline, is not afraid to put in tackles and has got decent passing range.

His addition will make HFC much more balanced. The Nizams have a very attack minded full-backs, Ashish Rai and Akash Mishra, who like to go forward whenever possible. Therefore Camara’s arrival will provide them the much needed cover to the back line when the full-backs are out of position.
