Bengaluru FC on Sunday announced the signing of 19-year-old attacker Harmanpreet Singh. The former East Bengal winger, a product of United Punjab FC, moves on a free transfer. Singh joins the Blues ahead of their upcoming AFC Cup playoff stage clash against Eagles FC. The footballer joined Indian Arrows in 2018. He made 14 appearances in the I-League, before moving to SC East Bengal, ahead of their debut season in the Indian Super League (ISL). The Punjab native said he was relishing a new challenge with the Blues, having represented the Red and Gold Brigade seven times last season.

Harmanpreet Singh delighted to join Bengaluru FC

“I am delighted to join Bengaluru FC. This is a club that has been successful throughout its existence, and it puts its trust in players irrespective of how young they are. I am looking forward to the new season, and learning from some of the most experienced players in the country – especially the likes of Sunil bhai and Gurpreet bhai. I want to give my best for this club and win trophies with it,” said Singh.

The footballer is a hard-working attacker who is capable of playing in various positions in the final third, making him a versatile option. Singh hails from a family of footballers. His father Satnam Singh played for Punjab Police. Singh’s uncle turned out for JCT Phagwara, winning the prestigious Durand Cup with them.

Bengaluru FC head Marco Pezzaiuoli termed the young player as an option in attack and on the wings.

“I would like to welcome Harmanpreet to Bengaluru FC. He is a young player who gives us an option in attack and on the wings, and I am certain he will benefit from a dressing room that has experience. Wishing him the best on this new journey with the club,” he stated.

Recent signing of Congolese striker Prince Ibara

Bengaluru FC recently bolstered their attack ahead of the upcoming AFC Cup Playoff Stage. They announced the signing of Congolese striker Prince Vinny Ibara Doniama. The 25-year-old most recently represented Ligue 2 side Chateauroux on loan from Belgian First Division A side Beerschot. Ibara joins on a two-year deal with an optional one-year extension.

Ibara began his career at ACNFF in Congo. He had stints with clubs in Gabon and Tunisia before joining Qatar Stars League side Al-Wakrah in 2017. The following season, Ibara moved to Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 side USM Alger. The footballer scored nine League goals helping Alger to the Championnat National 1 title.

“I’m really excited to be part of this team. I consider it as a project and not a business deal. I’ve won a fair few championships and titles in the clubs that I’ve played for but I feel India and Asia is the next challenge for me. That’s the motivating factor. Also, the fact that the coach trusts me to lead the attack is why I’ve picked Bengaluru FC,” said Ibara, after completing the formalities on his deal.

It will be interesting to see how the two players go about making their presence felt for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
