Igor Stimac announces 38 probables for preparatory camp ahead of friendlies in Bahrain

The players whose clubs would be playing in the semi-finals of the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) will be joining the camp’s as and when their commitments end.

Indian men’s national football team head coach Igor stimac has announced a list of 38 probables for the preparatory camp ahead of the international friendlies against Bahrain and Belarus on 23 and 26 March respectively. The players along with the head coach and staff will assemble in Pune on March 10, with practice starting from next day onwards. The players whose clubs would be playing in the semi-finals of the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) will be joining the camp’s as and when their commitments end.

The likes of Prabhshukhan Gill, Mohammad Nawaz, Deepak Tangri, Naorem Roshan Singh, Vikram Pratap singh, VP Suhair, Aniket Jadhav and Jerry Mawihmingthanga have made it to the senior national team camp for the first time. The list will later be pruned, and the contingent will be flying to Bahrain on March 21. 

Kerala Blasters FC goalkeeper Gill has made it to the camp on the back of some very impressive performances for the Yellow Army. The 21-year-old  custodian became Blasters’ number one when Albino Gomes suffered a knee injury early on in the 2021-22 ISL season. The former Indian Arrows player is leading the race for the ISL Golden Glove with six clean sheets to his name.

The other break-through performer of the campaign is Bengaluru FC’s Roshan Singh. The 23-year-old full-back is the leading Indian assist-maker (7) in the league, only behind Jamshedpur FC’s Greg Stewart, who has registered 10 assists so far. 

Meanwhile star defender Sandesh Jhingan has returned to the national team. The ATK Mohun Bagan player as delivered some solid performances at the back for the Mariners since returning to the club mid-way through the season after a failed stint in Croatia.

“The two international friendlies are part of our preparations for the third round of qualifiers, and we need to show some resilience and creativity. The two matches should enable our players to mature, and gain more experience against stronger sides. But for all of them it’s the start of the competition to gain that coveted place in the starting line-up for the June qualifiers,” Stimac said

“I have been watching every single game and admiring the boys for giving everything they have for their clubs,” the head coach added.

Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Dheeraj Singh, Prabhshukhan Gill, Mohammad Nawaz.

Defenders: Pritam Kotal, Ashutosh Mehta, Seriton Fernandes, Ashish Rai, Rahul Bheke, Sandesh Jhingan, Deepak Tangri, Narender Gahlot, Chinglensana Singh, Subhashish Bose, Akash Mishra, Mandar Rao Dessai, Naorem Roshan Singh.

Midfielders: Udanta Singh, Vikram Pratap Singh, Anirudh Thapa, Pronay Halder, Jeakson Singh, Glan Martins, Brandon Fernandes, VP Suhair, Lalengmawia, Sahal Abdul Samad, Yasir Mohammad, Ashique Kuruniyan, Aniket Jadhav, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Bipin Singh, Jerry Mawihmingthanga.

Forwards: Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, Sunil Chhetri, Rahim Ali.
