On Monday at Qatar’s Stadium 974, Brazil turned up the style, dancing their way to a 4-1 World Cup round of-16 victory over South Korea. Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals against Croatia on December 9 after scoring four goals in a strong first half, including goals from Vinicius Junior, Neymar, Richarlison, and Lucas Paqueta. In place of Tite in the starting XI as the Selecao sought its sixth World Cup championship, Neymar and Danilo were reinstated. Neymar had missed Brazil’s final two group games owing to an ankle injury sustained against Serbia.

Vinicius scored right away for his squad, neatly curling a shot into the side netting while 82-year-old Brazilian icon Pele supported the team from the hospital while recuperating from a lung infection. Raphinha’s cross found Vinicius unmarked at the back post. A few minutes after the first goal, South Korean player Jung Woo-Young fouled Richarlison in the area, preventing Neymar from extending the lead. The goalie Kim Seung-Gyu was fooled by the Paris Saint-Germain star’s penalty kick as he made it 2-0 inside of 15 minutes. With his 76th goal for Brazil, Neymar now shares the record for most goals scored while donning the national team’s fabled yellow jersey with Pele.
