Lionel Scaloni and Walid Regragui

Morocco’s Walid Regragui and Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni were unable to be separated from this conversation. Scaloni was under the most pressure of any manager going into the tournament, according to Simon Borg, and he also had significant personnel issues with player injuries and poor play. He had to quickly change his starting lineup, but he had the guts to start Alexis MacAllister, Julian Alvarez, and Enzo Fernandez. Mike DeCourcy made the following observation about Regragui: “He had virtually no prep time and took over a team that had been in the United States earlier this year with essentially no identity and was defeated 3-0. Regragui broke barriers all the way through Morocco’s journey to the semifinals less than six months later. No one made the most of their team’s potential.
