Prior to the World Cup, Everton lost three games in a row, including a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth in the EFL Cup and losses to Leicester City and Bournemouth in the Premier League. Last month, the Toffees lost 4-1 and then 3-0 at Bournemouth in a span of four days. This was after a 2-0 home defeat to Leicester in England’s top division. With just 14 points from their first 15 games of the season, Frank Lampard’s team is now ranked 17th in the Premier League standings, just one point above the relegation zone. Everton has had some encouraging moments this season, but their goal scoring has been a major worry. Only 11 goals have been scored by Everton in the Premier League this year.

The opposition is now managed by Lopetegui, who took command of his first game last week, a 2-0 victory against Gillingham in the EFL Cup’s last-16 round. With goals from Raul Jimenez and Rayan Ait Nouri, Wolves won the cup game and advanced to the competition’s quarterfinals, where they will face Nottingham Forest on January 9. But Wolves have only managed one Premier League victory since the beginning of September, losing four of their previous five games in the league. Before the season was over for the World Cup, the former champions of the Championship earned a point against Brentford on the road but dropped points against Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal at home.

Possible Lineups

Although Calvert-Lewin is thought to be succeeding in his fight for a spot on the team, it is unlikely that he will start because James Garner and Andros Townsend are still not eligible for selection. Conor Coady, who is ineligible to play against his parent club, will also be unavailable for Everton, which might allow Yerry Mina to fill Yerry Mina’s role in the middle of the defence.

Chiquinho, Pedro Neto, and Sasa Kalajdzic are unquestionably still out injured for Wolves, and Jonny Castro and Boubacar Traore will need to pass a final fitness test. For this game, Adama Traore, Matheus Nunes, and Jimenez are likely to start, and Hwang Hee-chan is also vying for a spot.

Everton possible line-up: Pickford; Patterson, Mina, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Iwobi, Gueye, Onana; McNeil, Maupay, Gray

Wolves possible line-up: Sa; Semedo, Collins, Kilman, Bueno; Neves, Nunes; Traore, Podence, Guedes; Jimenez
