Dani Alves is widely recognised as one of the greatest full-backs of his time. He started his footballer career by initially playing as a winger but was later re-positioned as a right back. He first made his professional debut for Bahia before joining the Andalusian side, Sevilla in the summer of 2002. He successfully spent six years with Sevilla before joining FC Barcelona in 2008. After a successful eight-season spell with the Catalan giants, Dani Alves signed a two-year deal with Serie A club Juventus in 2016. But a year later, he joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and likewise returned to his country Brazil in 2019. After spending two years with São Paulo, he returned to Barcelona in 2021.
While having a stint with Sevilla, Alves went on to win two UEFA Cups and the Copa del Rey. In his first season with FC Barcelona, he won the treble. In the next season, he bagged titles such as the Supercopa de España, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He also clinched two Supercopa de España, five La Liga titles, and two UEFA Champions League titles. With Juventus, he won the 2016–17 Serie A title and 2016–17 Coppa Italia. Furthermore, his title glory also extended with the French giants PSG.
Dani Carvajal is a player of great talent. He is not much of a goalscorer but is amazing with the ball on the right flank. He is often known for his aggressive style of play, physique, tackles, and ball control. Dani Carvajal’s ability to create space for his teammates plus to push the ball forward is greatly underrated. His attacking abilities too speak for themselves likewise making him one of the best right-backs of his generation. However, Dani Alves is an essential component of FC Barcelona and his immense work rate has lauded him to be at a greater level. It is hard to separate them both since the duo have won a lot with their respective teams.
Liverpool are particularly known to mold young talents into world-class players. A recent example is Trent Alexander-Arnold – who is regarded as one of the best attacking right-backs in world football. He is also termed as one of the most creative players at Anfield, notably for his impressive passing range and assists. His style of play and other merits denotes his high involvement during matches. Alexander-Arnold has been a significant product under Jurgen Klopp. But Alves has already achieved a lot and is more advanced than Alexander-Arnold – who is yet to reach his prime.
It doesn’t really seem sensible to compare Dani Alves and Cristiano Ronaldo especially when both players have played in totally different positions. Though, Ronaldo started as an attacking playmaker and slowly adapted to being a center-forward at Madrid. Dani Alves too played as a defensive right for most of his life. Both players and their performance is measured differently as well. Ronaldo steals the show with his goals and assists. Meanwhile, Alves is known for his tackles, pass completion rate, and clearances made. Hence, it would be ridiculous to compare the two as both of them are very best playing at their own positions.
Marcelo has been a fantastic aid over the years and has helped Real Madrid dominate world football. His skills and level of excellence are a delight to watch. Marcelo’s offensive and defensive qualities among others on the left wing are exceptionally advanced. Dani Alves on the contrary is amazing and best at what he does too. Therefore, it is difficult to choose who is a better player among the two.
