AC Milan thrashed Lazio 4-0 in the Coppa Italia quarter final fixture at San Siro on Wednesday. Rafael Leao opened the scoring for the hosts mid-way through the first half before Olivier Giroud scored a brace. After the break, Franck Kessie sealed the win with Milan’s fourth of the night. Stefano Pioli’s side will face Inter Milan in a two legged semi-final. The Rossoneri missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon kjaer and Matteo Gabbia, while Fikayo Tomori and Ante Rebic were only fit for the bench. Meanwhile Maurizio Sarri had to do without Fransceco Acerbi and Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro in the midfield.

Milan started the match brightly as Leao broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Alessio Romagnoli played a brilliant through ball from the back to release Leao on goal. The Portuguese forward dribbled forward before sweeping the ball past Pepe Reina into the far bottom corner with the inside of his left boot.

The home side doubled the lead in the 41st minute. Tamo Basic conceded ball possession in the midfield, Brahim Diaz dribbled forward before spreading the ball to Leao on the left side of the penalty area. The 22-year-old skipped past defenders with a shimmy and rolled the ball across the six-yard box for Giroud to tap in.

Once again, Diaz was involved in Milan’s third goal of the night. This time, the midfielder spreaded the ball to Theo Hernandez on the left, whose first time low cross was slotted home by Giroud at the far post.

There was more bad news for Lazio as Ciro Immobile got injured after a knock on the ankle, while Milinkovic-Savic flicked on a Luis Alberto corner and Patric couldn’t make a connection at the back post.

Milan made it 4-0 when Daniel Maldini’s free-kick ricocheted off Luiz Felipe and Manuel Lazzari, falling kindly for Kessie to drill home from eight yards out.
