The hosts were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Leicester City in midweek. While the Rams also fell at the first hurdle of the competition to Blackpool.
An underwhelming pre-season period was a sign of things to come for Burton Albion. Albion failed to win any of their final five summer friendlies and succumbed to their opening League One affair with Blackpool. Burton’s hopes of redemption in the EFL Cup against Leicester City were quickly dashed too. Kelechi Iheanacho needed just six minutes to break the deadlock which led to an eventual defeat of 2-0. Burton Albion’s newly-assembled squad are hovering just above the dotted line in 20th place at the moment. Nevertheless, the hosts can take positivity due to their form in Pirelli from last season.
The Rams also have a similar faith as they fell short against a dominant Blackpool side. Derby will begin the second gameweek level with Burton on zero points but six places higher in 14th. On a slightly brighter note, Derby only suffered one defeat from their final four away games in the 2022-23 League One season. Furthermore, Derby only won one of their four clashes with Burton Albion during their brief stint in the Championship together. However, this time around it is going to be a cracker of a match in the League One.
