Sergio “Checo” Pérez won the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend, making Mexican motorsport history. However, several photographs of the over-intoxicated driver, subsequently joined by a Ukrainian model, onboard a yacht in Monte Carlo, sparked controversy. Following the incident Checo took to the social media site Instagram to apologize for his actions stating that it was a bad party and the driver was out of control.

The incident

Sergio Perez is well aware that being the greatest Mexican driver of all time is not easy. That is why he chose to commemorate his accomplishment. Perez was caught on camera in two unsavory circumstances. The first was when he emerged from his party visibly inebriated, unable to walk, and even without one of his shoes. Following that, a video was published in which he appears with a female who is not his wife in a circumstance in which there is no crucial space between them.

‘It was a bad party’

After the pictures of the celebration were on the internet it sparked an obvious controversy and Checo took to Instagram to apologize. “I have seen the videos that have been circulating about me and I take responsibility for it. It was a bad party that I didn’t know how to control at the level of the person I am, but it was just that, a very bad party. People close to me know my values and the kind of person I am. For those who ask me, we are more united than ever, my wife and I.”

“And for those who only want to hurt us, I wish them the best. Thank you all for your love and I apologize to all the people who love me because those videos do not represent me at all. We will not talk any more about this topic, which only makes us forget the great moment we are living as a family. Thank you.” The Mexican driver expressed.
