Pierre Gasly said he wants to continie fighting among Formula 1‘s frontrunners after AlphaTauri launched their 2022 car on Monday (February 14).

Gasly was arguably one of the most consistent driver’s in F1’s crowded midfield in the 2021 season. He also played a key part in the Italian-based team finishing fifth in the constructor’s championship.

And Gasly, who will be part of Red Bull’s sister side for this season, is hoping to keep getting good finishes. Last season saw him regularly score points and even get one podium finish.

“I will be trying to build on the run I had of very good results and to continue to be on top of my game with the car I have,” he said.

“I really hope that this is a year when I can fight at the very front, to finish regularly in the top five and even higher if the car is good enough for that.

“Last year we came very close to fifth place in the constructors’ and it would be super to achieve that this year.

“It’s too early to say if that will be possible; but I will always give it my best shot and get the most out of our car.”

Team principal Franz Tost agrees the Frenchman will deliver if the car is good.

“Pierre is a fantastic driver and if we provide him with a really good car, he has shown he is able to win races and finish on the podium.

“In his leading role, Pierre has already showed that he can deliver great results, so I expect a lot from both drivers this year.”

Pierre Gasly on the new regulations

Gasly also spoke on the new 2022 regulations and said he was confident the team have done all they can. The new rules will overhaul how F1 cars function – and look too.

“It’s a fresh start for all the teams, starting pretty much from zero as we are really looking at a clean sheet of paper scenario.

“It will be a big challenge for the teams to work out how to build the best car possible to comply with the new regulations.

“I hope that it works really well for us. I have no doubts about our team’s abilities and, as of now, they are quite pleased with the work they have done.”

Thus, as things stand, five of the 10 teams have launched their cars. The remaining reams will also launch their cars in the coming week.
