Mick Schumacher might be on the receiving end of a similar fate with Guenther Steiner as Romain Grosjean and Nikita Mazepin, if Ralf Schumacher’s comments are to be believed. The former German driver said that Mick and Steiner ‘don’t fit in character.’ Mick is in his second year in F1 but still has not been able to score a point. His teammate Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, has been racking up some great points for the team. The result in Miami was a heartbreaker for Haas and Steiner did not hold back after the race.

‘Broken parts’

The Haas team principal mentioned ‘broken parts’ to be the only thing they were taking away from the race. That is a direct jibe on Mick who was involved in a nasty crash with Sebastian Vettel. Steiner might be one of the most loved team principals but he certainly is someone who does not hold back. Anybody who has seen the Drive to Survive series on Netflix will be aware of Steiner’s outbursts, especially against Grosjean and Mazepin. While that kind of a tough attitude might work with someone like Magnussen, it would not work with Mick. “We are leaving with nothing. Well, not with nothing, we are leaving with broken parts,” Steiner had said.

“Mick and Steiner don’t fit together in character. An outwardly tough guy like Kevin Magnussen suits Steiner better,” he said. “What was more important to me was Mick had a very good weekend. He was consistently faster than his team-mate and created the basis for himself to finish in the points with his own strength.” Ralf does believe, however, that his nephew is going in the right direction for now.

Mick going in the right direction: Ralf

“In Miami, Mick made the difference as a driver because of his speed. So the trend is going in the right direction,” he said. “That is exactly what Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto wants to see.” For now, however, the Scuderia does not have an opening until 2025 with both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc tied to the team on long-terms deals. However, Haas is yet to announce whether they will maintain their current driver lineup for next season or do something different. Mick’s performances throughout the season will be absolutely crucial if he wans to keep his place in the sport.
