The Dutchman, a Formula E champion in the Mercedes team’s 2020–21 campaign, has earned a move to the AlphaTauri F1 team to pair up with Yuki Tsunoda. De Vries adequately caught the attention of Red Bull’s top brass after impressing in his one-race cameo at Williams in 2022 as a late call-up to fill in for Alex Albon, earning him the place in the race left vacant by Pierre Gasly. James, who served as de Vries’ team principal at Mercedes before the team moved to McLaren, believes that the Frieslander’s style of team management will be beneficial to AlphaTauri as it seeks to recover from a dismal F1 campaign.

He singled out de Vries’ approach to assisting in problem-solving “in a polite fashion” as a crucial skill to take over into his subsequent drive. To quote James, “I think it’s so fully merited,” He was a candidate we looked at before bringing him in for Season 6 and recognised for his talents as a team member as well as a driver. “That strategy will be advantageous to any side he plays for. He has a way of politely bringing up areas that need improvement while yet saying what has to be stated in a way that doesn’t make people defensive. “And it’s a crucial attribute in a driver, particularly one joining a squad that may not have reached its full potential yet and has room to develop.
