Mick Schumacher debuted in Formula One for Haas in 2021 and outpaced his colleague Nikita Mazepin significantly last year. Last year, Haas had by far the poorest vehicle on the grid. They failed to keep up with the pace throughout the season and didn’t score a single point. In addition, they had two freshman drivers in Schumacher and Mazepin on the squad. Many people were drawn to Schumacher because he excelled Mazepin by a large margin. But such is not the case this season for the German driver.

The 2022 season

Mazepin was cut from the squad before the 2022 season. Kevin Magnussen took over as the German’s new partner, and this season has been a total 180 for Schumacher. Magnussen currently sits in 10th place in the Drivers’ Championship standings with 15 points. Schumacher, on the other hand, is now ranked 19th and has yet to create an account. This is a significant disparity, especially considering Haas’ superior mechanical package this season.

Schumacher proving expensive to Haas

According to rumors, the German’s future in the team is being reconsidered by Haas. They may replace him before the 2023 season, and the reason they haven’t done it yet is because there aren’t any appropriate successors available. It doesn’t help that Schumacher has already lost control of his car often this season. Haas will pay a high price for his collision in Monaco last week, with some sources claiming the damage to be worth more than $1 million.

Mixed feeling among spectators

People around the world and fans on social media are split on how they should react to the news. Schumacher is a popular character among Formula One fans because of the legacy his father carries in the sport, and many of them do not want him to retire from the sport. Others believe he has been shielded for far too long and that it is past time to be harsher on his performances.

With all these factors taken into consideration what will be Haas’ decision on the German driver only time will tell as nothing of yet is confirmed and there has been no official statement from the team or the driver about the news. The 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix is the next race on the F1 calendar and will be held in Baku on June 10th.
