In the opening pages of Chapter 449 of Wind Breaker, we learn that Jay’s uncle has been caught in a doping accident. We’re seeing him as a young boy, sitting down to watch the evening news with his parents. According to Jay’s father, this is a terrible disgrace for his family. He started to speak about how is going to show his face in society now. Many of Jay’s early memories were shown to us, and in each one, his uncle played a prominent role. How he wasn’t a genius but rose to prominence using performance-enhancing drugs.

In the following panel, we see his uncle’s funeral. Everyone began discussing why he had to end his life at such a young age. They reasoned collectively that it must have something to do with the recent doping incident. Jay began to reflect on how, in his time of need, he had rejected his uncle because he believed him to be a fraud. This whole thing could have been avoided if he had just apologized and stuck by his side.
And with that, our hero’s comeback race has officially begun! He overcame his fear of speed and began cycling at top speed. He became overwhelmed by the sorrow of recent memories and sprint his cycle like a wild animal. You can almost taste the blood in this panel from how wonderfully the art and writing convey the feeling.

A time trialist’s skill is demonstrated, which is the ability to do very well while racing alone. With that, Jay took the first place leaving everyone behind. Then, a steep turn came up, and Jay just kind of let his bike drift around it. And we see Kaneshiro leading the way, turning around to see Jay getting closer to her as the rest of the Kazuma crew members go in for the tackle. The chapters end with these words. In the following episode, Dom will most likely come to Jay’s aid, and the race may come down to just Jay and Kaneshiro.
