Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon, a support player for TSM, recently shared in an interview some recent events, including his transfer to North America. Whitemon had to search for new opportunities during the offseason after T1’s Dota 2 roster was disbanded, and he eventually made a risky switch to North American (NA) team TSM. Whitemon was interviewed by Indonesian journalist RosesaGaming before flying to Lima, Peru for the upcoming Major. In the conversation, he discussed the motivation behind his move and his experiences playing with specific players. Whitemon acknowledged MoonMeander for assisting him in acclimating to TSM

As the only support player for TSM who has so far played exclusively in Southeast Asia, Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon began the conversation by discussing how he has adapted to TSM’s tactics (SEA). He acknowledged that he initially felt anxious about playing in a foreign country, but he gave team coach David “MoonMeander” Tan credit for assisting him to get accustomed to the situation.

Honestly, I must admit that I was initially afraid. I was worried that I couldn’t follow their gameplay, but Moon reassured me by saying, “Just play how you usually play.” Then I just play normally, and I feel like it’s not really that different because we’ve also gained some expertise, so I think it’s getting easier over time. It’s also simpler to mould the rest of us into a cohesive team because Moon is more experienced than the rest of us because we are all relatively new. If you can listen to the coach, it will be simpler to adjust, Whitemon said.

Later, he discussed the circumstances surrounding his initial decision to join TSM. He recalled how Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, a previous teammate, and he had both been given the opportunity to join TSM at first. Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong’s addition to the squad ultimately led to 23savage choosing to remain with Talon Esports, while Whitemon chose to gain fresh experience with TSM.

“To begin with, 23savage and I were undecided. In contrast, 23savage promised me that he would remain with Talon if Jabz’s inclusion in the squad was verified, which it was. He did tell me he wanted me to join Talon, but I felt like I wanted to attempt something new and different since I had already played with him at T1 before.

Last but not least, when questioned about his time competing against two-time TI (The International) champions Anathan “ana” Pham & Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen in T1’s TI11 (The International 2022) campaign, Whitemon simply said that he felt no pressure. “Ana seems to be having more pleasure, in my opinion. I honestly don’t know if he was trying too hard, but it seemed like he was enjoying himself to me. But Topson was making an effort at the moment, and I picked up a lot from him.

Later today, Whitemon and TSM’s first games in the Lima Major’s group stage will take place. But as it deals with Team Spirit & PSG.LGD and TSM will immediately encounter difficulties.
