In the opening scene of this chapter, Jake visits Dean for the last time. Despite his sadness, Dean accepts Jake’s choice to enlist in the military, knowing that it is for the best. According to Jake, he needs to go away from it all since he no longer wants to live in Donal Na’s shadow. Other pals of Jake’s show up to say goodbye to him as well.
