Valorant Episode Five will kick off a new rank between Diamond and Immortal called Ascendant. The rank was announced during the developer live stream that happened before Episode five’s release. The Ascendant rank will put a wedge between the former high ELO ranks.

Riot Games has tried adjusting the ranking from the top of the ladder with leaderboards and move the Immortal rank from holding tiers to not having them in order to fix the distribution.

This newest measure will try to balance the ranks at the top of the ladder by adding three new tiers between Diamond and Immortal. Similar to lower ranks, Ascendant will have three tiers: Ascendant One, Ascendant Two, and Ascendant Three. When a player moves out of Ascendant Three, they will be moved to Immortal and can climb to Radiant henceforth.

The Ascendant icon comes with a similar style as other ranks by adding detail as players go up in the tiers. The first tier shows a green gem that has a grey border, the second tier adds two stars and a border can be seen at the top and bottom of the gem. The final form has a star in the center of the gem as well. It is same like how the other icons are shown.

Speaking of new placements, it is possible to place players as high as Ascendant One, a replacement the highest placement that was previously Diamond One. Moreover, players who are Ascendant will have new grouping restrictions for 5-stacks in rank. It means players are required to be within three ranks of Ascendant to queue together.

MMR will also be moving around as the game has pushed players to their respective ranks now that Ascendant has been added in the mix. The aim here was to push players who weren’t able to move above Bronze and Silver while separating the skill between Immortal and higher from other ranks.
