The Tokyo Revengers’ newest season, the Christmas Showdown Arc, has been well-received by audiences worldwide. Recently, the voice actors for four of the show’s characters attended AnimeJapan 2023 and shared their thoughts on the series so far. Yūki Shin (Takemichi Hanagaki), Shō Karino (Chifuyu Matsuno), Tasuku Hatanaka (Hakkai Shiba), and Tomokazu Sugita (Taiju Shiba) took the stage to discuss their favorite episodes from the Christmas Showdown Arc. The four voice actors began the show wearing their respective gang uniforms, with Shin and Karino donning Tokyo Manji Gang and Hatanaka and Sugita wearing BLACK DRAGON. BLACK DRAGON’s uniform colours were red and white, which are typically associated with celebrations in Japan. The voice actors mentioned that the colours were a symbol of an auspicious occasion.

Karino spoke about how Hatanaka had previously stated that he would never wear a BLACK DRAGON uniform again. This was a reference to the fact that Hakkai had worn both the Tokyo Manji Gang and BLACK DRAGON’s uniform throughout the story. When asked which side he thought he belonged to, Hatanaka looked troubled. He eventually admitted that he loves both uniforms and decided to wear the BLACK DRAGON uniform for the event in case the opportunity never came up again. Sugita also commented on the fun of wearing a cool uniform and joked that it must be how it feels to be an idol.
The voice actors then shared their favorite episodes of the Christmas Showdown Arc. Sugita’s favorite episode was episode 28: “Family bonds.” It’s a flashback episode that reveals important information about Taiju, Hakkai, and Yuzuha’s backgrounds. He praised the depiction of familial love in the episode and the twisted way it manifests.
Hatanaka’s favorite episode was episode 32: “Strive together.” He focused on the scene where Yuzuha is hugged by her mother. Yuzuha was the character who suffered the most in the Christmas Showdown Arc, and in that scene, she was finally shown, love. He also described it as a significant scene from Hakkai’s perspective because it shows that he has to believe he’s protecting her, or he would not be able to preserve his psyche. The cast agreed that it’s a touching scene, with Karino admitting that he had watched it five times in a row after the stream dropped.
Karino’s favorite episode was episode 30: “Whip up morale.” This episode features an anime original scene between Chifuyu and Keisuke Baji. The director had told Karino before the recording that Baji would appear and beat up Chifuyu again, which was a typical occurrence in their interactions in the Bloody Halloween Arc. Karino shared a little behind-the-scenes story with fans and recounted how the same mistake was made in the scene where Chifuyu and Baji first met in the Bloody Halloween Arc.
Shin’s favorite episode was also episode 32: “Strive together.” Specifically, he enjoyed the moment when the Toman members accepted Hakkai’s weakness. The scene also showed the growth of Takemichi’s kindness. Hatanaka added some commentary on how he thought the scene must have played out from Hakkai’s perspective. Hakkai must have wanted someone who understood him before he could show his true feelings.
