"The Rising of The Shield Hero" Anime Season 3 Announced for October 2023 with New Director

Fans of the popular anime series “The Rising of The Shield Hero” can look forward to its third season, which is set to premiere in October 2023, according to a new teaser trailer released by the staff of the show on Friday. The new season will see Hitoshi Haga taking on the role of director, following in the footsteps of Takao Abo and Masato Jinbo, who directed the first and second seasons, respectively.
Hitoshi Haga, who previously directed four episodes and storyboarded five episodes in the first season of “The Rising of The Shield Hero,” will helm the third season. The first key visual for the new season has also been unveiled, featuring the main character Naofumi Iwatani, surrounded by his companions, Raphtalia, Filo, and the new character Rishia Ivyred, a character from the light novels who will make her anime debut in the new season.
Keigo Koyanagi, the writer and supervisor of the previous seasons, will continue to work on the script for the new season, while Kevin Penkin will return to compose the music. Kinema Citrus will handle animation production, with Franziska van Wulfen and Sana Komatsu joining Masahiro Suwa as character designers. Kōta Sera, who served as chief animation director in the previous seasons, will collaborate on character designs.
“The Rising of The Shield Hero” anime series premiered in January 2019 with a two-hour special and ran for 25 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The second season of the show, titled “The Rising of The Shield Hero 2,” premiered on the AT-X channel in April 2022, after being delayed from its initial October 2021 release. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime alongside the Japanese airing.

“The Rising of The Shield Hero” tells the story of Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku who is summoned to a parallel universe and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, he is soon betrayed, left alone, and penniless, with only his shield to rely on. Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world.
