Takashi Yamazaki’s latest entry to TOHO’s Godzilla franchise, named Godzilla Minus One, has received attention by making the Visual Effects category shortlist. This is a noteworthy milestone because it is the first time a Japanese film has received Academy Award recognition in the Visual Effects category.
Joe Hisaishi, best known for his work on classic films such as Spirited Away, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and My Neighbor Totoro, is at it again. His outstanding original soundtrack for Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron has won him a well-deserved spot on the Music (Original soundtrack) shortlist. The film, titled Kimi-tachi wa D Ikiru ka (literally, How Do You Live? ), continues to captivate audiences.
With 33 movies competing for the popular Animated Feature award, there is a colorful diversity of anime films in competition. Among them are the following:
1. The anime adaptation of Shinichi Ishizuka’s Blue Giant manga.
2. Hayao Miyazaki’s enchanting creation, The Boy and the Heron.
3. The First Slam Dunk, a captivating anime film based on Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk basketball manga.
4. The cinematic adaptation of Mizuki Tsujimura’s spellbinding novel, Lonely Castle in the Mirror (Kagami no Kojō).
5. Makoto Shinkai’s visually stunning Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) film.
Notably, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has entered the competition, participating in the Animated Feature Film category.
The anticipation grows as the Academy prepares to announce the final nominations on January 23. The awards event, slated for March 10, promises to be a spectacular celebration of cinematic greatness.
