In the lower bracket playoffs of the ESL One Berlin Major 2023, Team Liquid faced off against Xtreme Gaming in a thrilling best-of-three series. The victor would advance to the next round, while the loser would be eliminated from the tournament. Team Liquid, one of the top favourites of the event, avoided an early exit by defeating Xtreme Gaming in two out of three games. Team Liquid Secures Victory Over Xtreme Gaming in Lower Bracket Playoffs at ESL One Berlin Major 2023.

Game 1 Recap: Xtreme Gaming Takes the Lead

In the first game, both teams had a balanced laning stage. However, Xtreme Gaming started to pull ahead when Kaka’s Lion died multiple times in the early game. Xtreme’s lineup allowed them to be aggressive, and they made Nisha, the midlaner for Team Liquid, their primary target. Xtreme won a crucial teamfight, and they continued to pick off Liquid’s heroes, leaving them starved for the farm. In the end, Xtreme Gaming emerged victorious in a grueling 54-minute match.

Game 2 Recap: Team Liquid Dominates with Superior Draft

In the second game, Team Liquid chose a superior draft with excellent lane counters to Xtreme’s heroes. The midlaner for Liquid, Nisha, played Void Spirit against Puck, while the safelane carried Monkey King went up against Underlord. With their draft advantage, Team Liquid executed their strategies flawlessly and dominated Xtreme Gaming with 28 kills to their opponent’s four in just 27 minutes.

Game 3 Recap: Team Liquid Advances with Stable Draft

In the deciding game, both teams chose stable drafts. Xtreme picked an out-of-meta carry hero in Marci, while Liquid’s laning stage saw little activity. Liquid won a few skirmishes and remained firm against Xtreme’s botched attempts. Paparazi, the player for Xtreme, did not provide the best initiations on Storm Spirit for his team, and Liquid’s lead continued to grow until it was too much for Xtreme to handle. In the end, Liquid won the game and secured their spot in the next round of the lower bracket.

Highlights of the Matches

With this win, Team Liquid not only keeps their hopes alive in the Berlin Major but has also almost secured a spot at The International 12 later this year. Xtreme Gaming exits the tournament in the 9th-12th place without any prize money or Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) points. Looking ahead, Team Liquid will face Aster in the next round of the lower bracket on May 3rd, 2023. It will be interesting to see how the team performs as their winning streak comes to an end. Despite the loss, Xtreme Gaming put up a good fight and can look to improve in future tournaments.
