The Japanese comic series created by Tatsuya Endo follows a sleuth as he sets out on a mission to conceive a family, little imagining that his adoptive daughter possesses telepathic abilities and his assumed wife possesses formidable assassination skills. Beginning in March 2019, the series has been published biweekly on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ website. As of April 2023, eleven tankōbon volumes have been released. Viz Media has also acquired the rights to release it in the North American market.
The fragile truce between Ostania and Westalis, two adjacent nations, is perpetually threatened by corrupt politicians, irrational nationalists, and other belligerent ideologies. Despite their schemes, the legendary sleuth “Twilight” continues to carry out perilous missions in the vain hope that no youngster will ever have to witness the atrocities of war.
Twilight assumes the persona of “Loid Forger,” a highly regarded psychiatrist, in the lively Ostanian metropolis of Berlint. Donovan Desmond is a famous politician who rarely makes public appearances at the elite Eden Academy. Where his boys attend, but his actual goal is to collect information on him. Loid carries out his scheme by convincing the single city hall secretary Yor Briar to be his wife and by adopting the inquisitive six-year-old orphan Anya. He plans to send Anya to Eden Academy. Where Loid is crossing her fingers that she does well enough to allow him to meet Donovan covertly.
The role of a caring parent and spouse is difficult for everyone, and Loid is no exception. Yor, the “Thorn Princess” of the underground assassin group, and Anya, the “mind reader” esper, are both hiding something, much as Loid is. The Forgers learn that their love for one other is more important than everything else, even though their seemingly perfect family is based on lies.
