For Dota 2 players, their Matchmaking Rating (MMR) is the holy grail of the game, determining their skill level and bragging rights. However, recalibrating MMR can be a double-edged sword that can either catapult them to the top or plummet them to the bottom. Talon Esports’ 23savage, known for breaking MMR records, experienced the latter when he lost over 3,000 MMR points during the recalibration process. Despite winning 9 out of 12 ranked games, 23savage’s MMR dropped from an impressive 12,500 to a disappointing 9,030. The shocking drop was revealed by 23savage himself on social media, leaving fans and fellow players stunned. While recalibration can be a gamble, 23savage’s loss serves as a cautionary tale to other players to carefully consider the risk of recalibrating their MMR.

After recalibration, 23savage notices a startling drop in MMR

Screenshots of Dota 2 posted by 23savage on social media revealed that the player’s MMR plummeted to 9,030, along with a rank of 200 Immortal. While he laughed off the outcome in one post, another showed his apparent fury. However, in a recent Twitch broadcast, he vowed to make the climb back to the top alongside his fans.

Although it was expected that there would be a slight drop in MMR due to the limited number of players at the 12,500 range where 23savage initially resided, the decline was more significant than anticipated, despite winning nine of the 12 ranked games. It’s possible that only ten out of the 12 games counted towards the recalibration process, as it’s known to take place over ten games. This sudden drop in MMR has caught the attention of fans and fellow players, serving as a reminder that recalibration can be a risky move that can have significant consequences. Despite the setback, 23savage remains determined to climb back up to the top of the MMR rankings.

The Dota 2 community has been abuzz with talk of the recent drop in MMR by Talon Esports’ star carry player, 23savage. The Southeast Asian player, who has maintained an impressive record throughout his career, had occupied the highest positions on the SEA MMR Leaderboards for an extended period. However, his recent slump has seen him drop to the 194th spot on the leaderboard.

While this is not the first time that a professional Dota 2 player has seen a decrease in MMR, 23savage’s drop of approximately 3,000 points is quite significant. This is in contrast to veteran Chinese Dota 2 star He “Inflame” Yongzheng’s experience, who faced a glitch that caused him to drop from Immortal to Herald I. His MMR dropped from 9,000 to 10, and even though the bug was fixed, Inflame’s profile continued to show that he had a Herald medal.

Despite this setback, 23savage is determined to stay focused on the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Tour 3: Division 1. Talon Esports has been performing well lately, finishing third at the Lima Major with two opening victories, and has had a strong start to Tour 3. The team’s next series will be against Polaris Esports on March 20th.

It remains to be seen how 23savage’s recent MMR drop will affect his performance in upcoming matches, but the player’s talent and dedication to the game are undeniable. Fans and fellow players alike will be watching to see how he bounces back from this setback and continues to make his mark in the competitive Dota 2 scene.
