Overwatch 2 is an online multiplayer, where players need to take part in intense games. But PlayStation players often wonder if they need PS Plus to be able to log on and enjoy the game?

The online gaming scene is bigger than ever, and with titles such as Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 giving all players a free-to-play experience, there are many opportunities for players to get involved.

It can sometimes be really difficult to keep track of the several services on offer though, with PS Plus, Xbox Live Gold, Game Pass, Switch Online, and several subscriptions available out there.

In the case of Overwatch 2, many players have been curious about the status of its online service and if it requires PS Plus to enjoy.

Does Overwatch 2 need PS Plus subscription?

Thankfully, PS players do not require a PlayStation Plus if they want to play Overwatch 2. It totally free to play and players don’t require any memberships to try it out. Each title and developer is different when speaking of the terms of their online multiplayer, but Blizzard clearly sees the benefit of making its latest game as accessible to all PS gamers as possible.

With the game utilizing the free-to-play system, the game’s primary monemaking comes from cosmetics and bundles, so the more players joining the game, the more players can start playing.

There is a small chance that Blizzard reneges on this policy and might opt to change things in the coming years, but this scenario seems unlikely at the moment.

Which controllers does Overwatch 2 support?

People looking to play Overwatch 2 with a controller will find themselves lucky: the game allows controllers. In Overwatch 2’s options menu, players can find controller-specific settings that will allow them to adjust the layout exactly how they prefer.

But not every controller in the market will support Blizzard’s FPS title. If players want to play Overwatch 2 with a controller, using an official Xbox Series X|S controller is best. Since Xbox and Windows work belong to the same ecosystem, pairing the controller with a PC is easy.

As soon as the PC detects the controller and players press a button, the game’s interface will automatically swap to button prompts. It’s unknown if Overwatch 2 officially supports XInput, an app that works with Windows and detects Xbox controllers automatically.

The game also works with modern PlayStation controllers and third-party PC controllers, but players will be required to make some adjustments. Once players attach a wired PlayStation 4 DualShock controller, Overwatch 2 will automatically recognize it, but might not show PS-specific button inputs. Players will still be able to use a PS4 DualShock, but they will have to figure out which button does what or re-map them.
