The open-world video game genre probably has the biggest player base. Gaming studios launch several open-world titles that offer spectacular gameplay and graphics. Despite such popularity, many gaming franchises are still yet to launch an open-world title.

With an immersive storyline, many franchises would be perfect for the open-world role-playing format and will surely become popular among gamers. Here are some gaming franchises that would be great as an open-world game.

Prince of Persia

The game came out in 1989 and is one of the most popular action-adventure series that is still popular among gamers. The popularity of Prince of Persia skyrocketed when Ubisoft took charge of the series and released Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2003.

The franchise saw 3 more entries in the main storyline, including Warrior Within (2004), Two Thrones (2005), and The Forgotten Sands (2010). The series features a great storyline with powerful characters, an ideal setting for an open-world game.

Battlefield

This franchise is one of EA DICE’s most played FPS games. It came out in 2002 and has a total of 11 Battlefield video games that are centered around multiplayer battles and single-player campaigns.

The recent Battlefield titles haven’t impressed the players a lot, with Battlefield 2042 being a major letdown. This might be an opportunity in disguise to reinvent the franchise and create an open-world video game.

Resident Evil

It has been very popular since Capcom first introduced Resident Evil in 1996. With the revolutionary evolution of the franchise, video games have come a long way and offer more depth to their narratives.

While the latest Resident Evil Village allows players to roam freely around in certain areas of the map, most of it is linear. Many side quests and other core elements of the franchise can definitely make for a great open-world title.
