Anime fans are excited about the Naruto live-action movie. After over a decade of teasers, production on a live-action version of the legendary anime and manga series finally came to a halt. No one knows for sure what started the news cycle, but dedicated anime viewers can’t help but mention the smashing success of Netflix’s One Piece adaption, which was easily the most talked-about show of 2023. Still, it appears like Naruto and Sasuke will be making their theater debut very soon.
As of writing, there is no confirmed release date for the Naruto live-action movie. But the fans are expecting it around 2025-2026. We will update the article once the confirmed release date is out.
In July 2015, development on a Naruto adaptation began at the popular entertainment corporation Lionsgate, with the acclaimed director Michael Gracey set to direct. Unfortunately, fans remained mostly in the dark for a number of years because details on the project were scant. Earlier in 2023, Variety revealed that the film’s screenwriter, Tasha Huo, who was named one of their 10 writers to watch, had signed on to pen the script.
In addition to Cretton, the production team includes the brilliant minds of Jeyun Munford, Avi and Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu, producers of such critically acclaimed films as the Dungeons & Dragons film in 2023 and the Borderlands adaption in 2024. And to top it all off, Naruto’s creator Masashi Kishimoto has personally praised Cretton’s involvement. The 45-year-old Cretton is “the perfect director for Naruto,” he says, expressing his confidence in the director.

Including Naruto and Naruto: Shippūden, the Naruto manga covers a total of 700 chapters and 49 arcs. Some are worried that the film may go a different plot path from the original. Recent successes, like Netflix’s One Piece live-action, which remained faithful to the source material, have inspired some fans to be optimistic, while others are skeptical due to the sometimes-poor track record of live-action anime adaptations. It will be challenging to decide which Naruto plot to adapt for the future film because it is based on a long-running anime series.
Despite this, Boruto: Naruto the Movie and The Last: Naruto the Movie were both animated features that took place a long time after the Fourth Great Ninja War. Naruto Uzumaki’s ninja squad is the center of attention in The Last Movie, which follows their quest to prevent a lunar collision.
