Previously in Chapter 419

Following AFO’s unexpected return, Chapter 419 begins where it left off. The antagonist also admits to having been in charge of Shigaraki’s existence from the moment she was born and to having traded Decay for Tenko’s true Quirk. The stunning revelation forces Shigaraki and child Deku to confront AFO. Deku is dragged out of his dream world and back into reality as Shigaraki is rendered unconscious by AFO.

Surprisingly, Deku’s arms that Shigaraki’s Decay took away in the fantasy world are also ruined in the actual world, as shown in Chapter 419. One of the most horrifying and gory panels in the manga is the one showing Deku lying on the ground in the middle of the battlefield, with a pool of blood surrounding him.

Dark moments and character hurts have always been a part of MHA. Among those, Deku has sustained multiple injuries that could prove fatal from the start. But his horrible state is unprecedented. And now he has to confront the cruel AFO on top of transferring all the other Quirks from past OFA users. Sero, Ojiro, and Sato—three of Deku’s classmates—seem to be fighting AFO at the last possible moment, and Aizawa makes a long-awaited return to help his students. The horrific depiction of the main character’s situation in MHA is disturbing, even since Deku’s allies will distract AFO while he recovers.
