Fast forward to 2023, with the arrival of LoL Patch 13.17, Riot Games delighted players by introducing several new Cosmic skins and a unique chroma for an existing one. This patch saw the introduction of Cosmic Matriarch Bel’Veth, Cosmic Paladin Nautilus, Cosmic Paladin Sion, and Cosmic Paladins Nunu & Willump. In an unexpected twist, Riot also unveiled the controversial Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin, which stirred the League of Legends community.

The League of Legends community was ablaze with excitement and intrigue when the new cosmic skins and the Cosmic Capsule 2023 were first unveiled. Initial speculation among gamers suggested that Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin might be a Chroma for the current Dark Cosmic Jhin skin. The creators soon confirmed that Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin was in fact a Mythic Variant skin, dispelling this misunderstanding and stating that it was a mistake.
The ultimate objective for many players became obtaining the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin. It took purchasing and opening the Cosmic Capsule to get this precious diamond. Unlocking 30 capsules was the only definite way to secure the skin; there was a slight chance that it may be unlocked randomly by opening capsules.
But there was a hefty price to pay for this endeavour. The cost of the Cosmic Capsule was 750 RP, and if the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin eluded you during random openings, you would be forced to spend a total of 22,500 RP (which is equal to 30 Cosmic Capsules) in order to obtain the desired reward. Riot Games maintained their position and emphasised that the Jhin skin was not intended for everyone. They also stated that they have no intentions to change the procedure for obtaining the Jhin skin.
It should be noted that the Cosmic Capsule 2023 debuted on August 30 and will be available through the client until September 20. Similar to event capsules from the past, players could access a variety of random skin shards and extra awards.
Each Cosmic Capsule 2023 guarantees three random skin shards and a 1% chance of obtaining either a Cosmic 2023 Grab Bag or the elusive Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin.
