The chapter starts with Chihiro Rokuhira accessing the True Realm of the Cloud Gouger and unleashing the terrible power of Mei: Shred. In the midst of the black lightning that engulfs him, Chihiro feels a renewed sense of connection to the blade, which gives it renewed power. Feeling a surge of strength, Chihiro breaks free of his restraints and charges headfirst into an attack on the Hishaku leader.
Chihiro displays an audacious act of power by severing the sorcerer’s arm, but the thrown limb blocks his eyesight. Despite this setback, Chihiro continues charging toward the Hishaku leader, stabbing him in the chest. Surprisingly, though, the sorcerer is still alive and appears unconcerned about the horrific wound he sustained, even though he is coughing up blood. The head of the Hishaku tribe suffers through it all with disturbing apathy before brushing off the injuries. He goes so far as to use his residual arm to pick up his severed limb.
Chihiro thinks about what to do now that he knows his Cloud Gouger blade is fading. He realizes it’s pointless to fight the powerful sorcerer for an extended period of time as the blade has just three embers left before it dies. In order to escape the confrontation and reunite with Hakuri and Shiba, he decides to use his lightning sorcery.
