Naafiri has grown to be one of the most contentious choices in the League of Legends solo queue since her release at the end of July. With some of the highest draft presence numbers in ranked play, The Hound of the Hundred Bites is a champion on Summoner’s Rift that has a significant impact and will once again put pressure on Riot Games to release an update.

According to League stats aggregator U.GG, Naafiri currently has a whopping 55.3 percent ban rate in the same ranked distribution as well as a 52.6 percent win rate in the mid-lane among Platinum players and above. As one of the most feared champions in the game, she rose quickly, forcing the developers to lower her in Patch 13.16. In the past two patches, LoL’s newest top dog has maintained an extremely high ban rate:

If the modifications made to the League PBE end up being implemented on the live servers, Naafiri will receive a base attack damage reduction of two, a base armor reduction of two, and a slight base attack speed reduction in the upcoming patch. Similar to the buffs that are anticipated to come with this patch, some of these nerfs are rather strange, but the majority weaken champions that have been a little too dominant in the meta.

As stated by design manager Stephen Auker in Patch 13.15, Naafiri has “stabilized into a good state” since her release, which runs directly counter to Riot’s original plans. Since her win rate had begun to level off for “elite ranks,” which include Diamond ranks and above, around 49 to 49.5 percent, Auker declared that there would be no adjustments.

The potent champion has since climbed into the elite ranks’ 50% win rate category, however, entering a difficult-to-balance territory. Naafiri’s play rate and win rate shouldn’t be completely destroyed by these modest nerfs, but they should help to further balance out her strengths up until a point where she no longer exceeds what is considered to be a reasonable upper limit by both players and developers. On Wednesday, August 16, League Patch 13.16 will be made available.
