Since its inclusion in season 16, Mixtape has established itself as a key component of the gameplay experiences that are available in Apex Legends, allowing players to enjoy the game’s rich arsenal and gameplay loop in a setting with much lower stakes and a much faster tempo. But since then, there haven’t been many updates or changes, and the list of games it offers is about to get a few new additions.

On August 8, Season 18 will premiere, and while Revenant’s revamp is undoubtedly its standout feature, the Mixtape playlist will also see some improvements. Three new maps from Broken Moon POIs, including The Core for Gun Run and Team Deathmatch, and Production Yard for Control, will be added to Mixtape’s game list when Resurrection launches. These three new maps were taken from Broken Moon POIs.

In season 18, Broken Moon is added to the Apex Legends Mixtape playlist:

The team is “excited” to deliver this set of updates to Mixtape in season 18, according to design director Evan Nikolich. He recently stated in a press conference that they wanted to “bring variety to the Apex experience, with Mixtape being a place to play in new and exciting ways.”

Because both Broken Moon POIs offer different gameplay perspectives from the maps that are currently used in all three of Mixtape’s main game modes, they were specifically chosen for this game mode. Nikolich commented on The Core, which will host Gun Run and TDM in season 18, saying, “It’ll be a little bigger than what you’ve played in the past.” “We’ve included some zip-rails to aid rotations and open up some sightlines for various gameplay styles,” the author said.

While The Core is positioning these game modes for longer ranges and a slower tempo than is customary, Production Yard is doing the exact opposite for Control. The experience of close-quarters combat is what we’re going for, Nikolich said. That’s a far cry from the experiences Control typically provides, with the abundance of wide open spaces surrounding each capture point resulting in reliable long-range engagements.

Respawn is by no means finished, but Broken Moon adds some welcome new songs to Mixtape. Respawn is eager to “continue to evolve and grow Mixtape,” according to Nikolich, and once more battle royale maps arrive at Apex, there will undoubtedly be more updates in upcoming seasons. However, for the time being, this should be just the right amount of freshness to give the player base of the arcade-style playlist a sense of renewed energy. On Tuesday, August 8 across all platforms, Apex’s eighteenth season, Resurrection, will debut. You can check out Mixtape’s most recent updates then.
