GTA Online is among the most played games across the globe. And, every now and then players come across something interesting in the game. Now, GTA Online’s Advanced Handling Flags have convinced some players that in-game car gearboxes are breaking down.
Rockstar pushed the Advanced Handling Flags with the Southern San Andreas Super Sport Series update back in 2018. The changes weren’t applied to older vehicles, thus, only affected newer vehicles in the game.
Players were not very impressed when they first got their hands on the update. Several of the newer vehicles ran into engine troubles. The cars also had issues with the bouncy suspension after a few days, making driving certain vehicles daunting.
Players also filed petitions to remove the feature, but all that went in vein. Though Rockstar has managed to improve the system over time, players still encounter unusual issues with the in-game vehicles.
Redditor Tattendaal compiled a video that shows examples of GTA Online cars producing “infuriating popping sound.” The player believes it could be due to the broken gearbox. Other GTA Online players shared a different fix for the issue.
One user found two flags that caused the issue in the video, “one that allows the car to shift late, and one that overrevs the engine.”

The flags come together and cause the car to shift before hitting the rev limiter, which results in the popping and crackling. Another user added that this issue with the Advanced Handling Flags is pretty new to GTA Online. It’s unclear if the teams at Rockstar have identified this issue and intend to push a solution for it.
Since the game launched, Rockstar has often found new ways of improving the driving mechanics of the game. But it seems that some changes didn’t come out really well.
