Rockstar is reportedly planning to hold certain “portions” of GTA 6 amid its ongoing development. This will allow it to save the content for future DLC releases to complete the development according to the roadmap.

It has been over 10 years since the last GTA title hit the market. Since then, the gaming industry has seen a lot of changes in terms of microtransaction models. Its credit also goes to Rockstar’s unparalleled success with GTA Online.

As one of the best-selling games in history, a product that still sells millions of copies each quarter, Rockstar hasn’t been in a great rush to release its next iteration in the franchise. It’s already confirmed that GTA 6 is under development, thanks to the historic leak that showcased the in-development game footage. The leak also confirmed the location and characters of the game.

Rockstar targeting 2024 release?

With no release date in the offing, we could be looking at some more years of development. However, new claims from renowned GTA insider ‘Tez2,’ hints at a 2024 release, with devs potentially even “cutting portions of the game” to meet the launch window.

Various reports in the past few years have pointed toward differing release targets for GTA 6; however, the insider’s most recent claims point toward a “holiday 2024” release. “Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well,” Tez2 added.

One of the biggest factors affecting the company’s plans is the divisive ‘return to office’ policy many game developers have been coming under fire for in the past few months. With Rockstar following suit, it could result in layoffs, Tez2 warned. Thus, we could expect more delays.

The insider also claimed that the higher management at Rockstar might not delay the game by multiple years, which will result in trimming down current plans, slimming the launch offerings of the game, and simply packaging the cut content into DLC bundles in the coming months.

“Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further,” Tez2 said.

GTA Online players spot GTA 6 teaser

In a Twitter post, Rockstar tipster ‘Gaming Detective’ shed light on the similarities between GTA Online’s Taxi Work logo and the big “Miami Taxi Vibes.” Both logos show the city’s skyline, which could mean the game taxi company will exist in the upcoming game.

The shirt named ‘Downtown Cab Co. Revere Collar,’ shows a city that some players believe is the Vice City of another location in GTA 6 like Port Gellhorn. Considering how Vice City is a rip-off of Miami in the GTA franchise, it’s possible that it is a hint from the developed about the next installment, but players will have to wait and see what Rockstar has in store for them.
