It has never been better for football gamers to build their dream team with their own style of play. EA Sports’ latest installment FC 24 offers a lot of variety for its users to create their tactics. Gamers can now draw inspiration from real-life football players and adopt their strategies with their own teams. With modern football having evolved significantly over the last decade or more, fans have witnessed an abundance of new styles and tactics on display.

In this period, the game has undergone a lot of change in how a team plays with and without the ball, their pressing, closing down and quick transitions from one end of the pitch to the other. Managers are no longer content to sit deep and launch counter-attacks. Instead, they are willing to take the game to their opponent by playing front-foot football. One of the reasons behind the massive change is Pep Guardiola. In his four-year spell from 2008 to 2012 as Barcelona manager, Guardiola changed the way people look at football.

The Catalan giants played arguably the most attractive style of football in the recent past. Their ability to keep the ball under pressure and win it back quickly after losing it made them a force to be reckoned with. Under Guardiola’s guidance, Xavi Hernandez, Andreas Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and none more than Lionel Messi did an incredible job in successfully implementing his famous Tiki Taka style of play. It became so popular, that fans have been trying to recreate it in EA Sports’ football game for a while. In FC 24, there is a tactic which allows the users to even select the Tiki Taka style of play. Let us look at the formations that go best with this style.

Formation – 4-2-3-1

This is one of the most commonly used formations in real football as well as the game. The benefit of this formation is that it offers adequate support both defensively and offensively. The two midfielders who sit in front of the defenders can help retain the possession and also provide defensive support, while the front four can focus on breaking down the opponents’ defence. This formation allows the team to go narrow as well as exploit the space on the wings, making it one of the best formations in the game.

Custom Tactics

Defensive style: Pressure on heavy touch

Team Width: 40-60

Depth: 50-65

Offensive Width: 50-65

Formation – 4-1-2-1-2

This is one of the narrowest formations in the game. If played correctly, this formation can allow a team to maintain possession more, as well as prevent the opponents from exploiting the space in the middle of the park. With four narrow midfielders present in this formation, this style could outnumber the opposing team in the central part of the pitch. However, due to the lack of wingers, a lot of dependency will be on the full-backs to provide the attacking width.

Custom Tactics

Defensive style: Pressure on heavy touch

Team Width: 35-45

Depth: 50-65

Offensive Width: 50

Formation – 4-3-3

After 4-2-3-1, the 4-3-3 is one of the most commonly used formations. It is largely used to help retain the possession effectively during the game. With three narrow midfielders present, this system allows the users to keep hold of the ball with short passes. The wide players provide options to stretch the opposition defence, thereby creating different avenues to attack. There are several variations to the 4-3-3 from defensive, holding, attacking and false 9 in the game. Almost all of these variations work well with the Tiki Taka style of play.

Team Width: 40-60
