Doraemon 2023 movie retains #1 spot beating The First Slam Dunk

Doraemon the Movie 2023, the 42nd film in the popular franchise, has managed to retain its top spot in its second weekend.

Doraemon the Movie 2023, the 42nd film in the popular franchise, has managed to retain its top spot in its second weekend. The film managed to sell 384,000 tickets and raked in 468,105,440 yen (approx US $3.51 million). The film has sold over 1.02 million tickets and earned a sum of 1,248,995,240 yen (about US $9.36 million).

As far as the story is concerned, the movie is set in a utopian world in the sky, where everyone lives happily. Adventurers and other mythical cities, including Atlantis, have equated the land. Doraemon and Nobita embark on a journey to look for the utopia using a gadget that is the latest for the film, the time zeppelin that comes with a time warp function.

Doraemon beating The First Slam Dunk

The film has been directed by Takumi Doyama and the scripting has been done by Ryota Kosawa – his maiden Doraemon film. The TV anime’s existing cast members reprised their roles for the movie. Ren Nagase of the idol group King and Prince made his debut in voice acting by taking up the role of “perfect cat robot” Sonya in the film.

The First Slam Dunk, the new anime film based on Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk basketball manga, sold 137,000 tickets and earned 200,332,920 yen. The film managed to sell a sum of 8.19 million tickets and earned a cumulative total of 11,915,399,520 yen.

The film is currently the 29th highest-earning film of all time in Japan. It is also the 12th highest-earning anime film, beating Evangelion: 3.0+1.0. the movie ranked #1 in its opening weekend. The film sold 847,000 tickets and raked in 1,295,808,780 yen in its opening weekend.

The movie opened in Japan on December 3 in around 40 cinemas with IMAX screenings. The film also had Dolby Atmos screenings in 34 cinemas. The movie also added Dolby Cinema screenings on December 10.

The First Slam Dunk wins Japan Academy Film Prize

The Japan Academy Film Prize Association announced the 46th annual Japan Academy Film Prizes winners. The ceremony was held at an awards ceremony at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo.

The First Slam Dunk, the new anime film of Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk basketball manga, received Animation of the Year. The other films nominated for Animation of the year were Suzume, INU-OH, One Piece Film Red, and Lonely Castly in the Mirror.

RADWIMPS and Kazuma Jinnouchi received the award for Best Music for Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume film. Osamu Ichikawa and Keizo Suzuki and Eri Sakushima received the award for best Cinematography, Sosuke Yoshikado won Best Lighting, and Yuji Hayashida and Eri Sakushima won Best Art Direction, all for Shin Ultraman. Shin Ultraman and Anime Supremacy were also among the five nominees for this year’s Best Picture.
