By playing the game, leveling up their account, and purchasing a battle pass each season, players of Apex Legends can amass cool cosmetic items such as weapon and legend skins, banner frames, and gun charms. But if you want to progress or transfer your items to another platform, you might be wondering if Apex supports cross-progression.

Cross-progression, as the name implies, enables you to transfer achievements and rewards from one platform to another. Playable on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, Apex even allows for cross-platform play, allowing you to team up with players on other systems. Cross-progression, for instance, would enable you to log into your account on both Xbox and PC if you’ve spent the majority of your time playing on the PC.

Does Apex Legends support cross-progression?

Cross-progression has not yet been added to Apex Legends, despite the game’s official support for cross-platform play. Your level, cosmetics, and achievements will therefore remain distinct on each platform if you play on several of them. To access all of your items in one location, there is currently no way to combine or merge accounts.

Cross-progression for the game is not necessarily a pipe dream, though. Respawn Entertainment, the company behind Apex, has reportedly been working on the feature for some time but has been slowed down by hacks and other more urgent problems.

Features like cross-progression have been pushed to the back burner because fixing those problems is more important. Respawn, however, is not dismissing the notion. Chad Grenier, a former game director for Apex, claimed cross-progression was “a lot more work” than he anticipated in a Twitch clip from a developer panel with Brown Girl Gamer Code in 2020.“We are working on cross-progression that will allow people to carry over purchases, skins, and account progress,” the developer said. “It will probably be a little while longer, but eventually, we’ll have that.”

When is cross-progression coming to Apex?

Cross-progression in Apex Legends has yet to be officially announced for a release date. However, over the years, this feature has become a contentious issue in the community, with many developers offering their opinions and outlining many of the challenges associated with including it in the game.

Ryan Rigney, the former director of communications for Respawn, said in August 2021 that cross-progression in Apex wouldn’t be available that year and that its implementation is “gnarly as hell” logistically. In addition to the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, there are legal and contractual issues to resolve when making purchases on other platforms, the author wrote. “The laws in various places vary. It is a mess. But we’re working on it and committed to making it happen.

Design director Evan Nikolich acknowledged there were challenges in implementing cross-platform functionality at an EA press conference in October 2022, saying Apex “wasn’t built with cross-progression in mind.” Nikolich further explained how the success of Apex caused the development focus to shift and how other features were given precedence over cross-progression.

Cross-progression was still being worked on, along with other eagerly anticipated features like support for next-generation consoles, according to Josh Medina, senior producer at Respawn, in December 2022. Updates to the Firing Range and new game modes, like Team Deathmatch, are currently being prioritized, according to additional tweets from Medina.
