Review of the previous episode

Among their best episodes, if not the best, this is definitely up there. I find it really intriguing how they changed the scenes, added fluidity to the animation, and used varied camera angles. Without giving anything away, let’s just say that the finale wasn’t all there was to it and that it will alter the course of the anime significantly between now and the next episode and season.

Although readers of LN may have conflicting sentiments, they should give Lerche credit for what they accomplished with the few episodes and little time for each scene, especially given the constraints they had.

The biggest change I saw when I shifted from light novel to an anime was less a difference in level of maturity and more the omission of Hirata’s selfless character. This scene from the LN presents Hirata in a very different light than he usually is.

It shows him as someone who isn’t always aware of the positive contributions he’s making to the class, his own strengths that make him willing to sacrifice himself, and his exceptionally high compassion levels.
