For anime and cosplay, followers of Japanese pop culture throng Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture! Centres for anime and manga as well as the Cosplay HQs are located in Nagoya and Aichi

Visit Aichi to See More Anime and Manga

Ghibli Park is an excellent reason to visit Aichi, as we previously mentioned in a release. If you are already in the neighbourhood and want to see more of your favourite anime or manga, or perhaps find some new ones, the region does not disappoint.

The well-liked Netflix film A Whisker Away, a fantastical tale set in Tokoname, a significant pottery town in Aichi that you may visit during your stay, may be of interest to you if you enjoy finding the real-world locations used in anime. Yattokamechan, an original anime produced in Nagoya, is one of the best. To learn more about Nagoya before your trip, watching it will be a lot of fun. The Anime Shikizakura, which is located a little further out in the countryside, gets its name from the cherry blossoms that bloom in Obara, a neighbourhood of Toyota City, every spring and fall.

In Nagoya, there is a tonne of Anime and Manga stores to choose from, particularly in the Osu Shopping Streets neighbourhood but also near Nagoya Station and the Sakae downtown area. Come take a look, but don’t be shocked if your bag won’t close when you get back from your trip!

Follow in the Steps of Well-Known Aichi-Based Voice Actors and Manga Artists

Many notable Manga & Anime creators and voice actors are from the prefecture of Aichi, thus there may be something unique in the water of the rivers there. To give two examples, Aichi is home to two well-known Manga artists. Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball, and My Hero Academia were all hugely successful in the US as were the creations of Akira Toriyama and Khei Horikoshi, who are best known for their work on the latter.

The only way you’ll be able to recognise the voice actors is if you choose to watch anime in its original Japanese with subtitles. Aya Hirano, Haruka Tomatsu, and Akari Kit are a few notable actors. Aya Hirano is best known for her roles as Haruhi Suzumiya, the protagonist of the masterpiece The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Dende in Dragon Ball. Haruka Tomatsu is known for her role as heroine Asuna in the TV anime Sword Art Online and as the main character Kata from Ykai Watch. In addition to acting, Aya Hirano is a well-known singer who has performed all over the world, including at the Anime Expo in the US.

Even while it might be challenging to run into your idols when visiting Aichi, the mere knowledge that they lived only a few blocks away from you, took in the same sights and breathed the same air as you do wonders for the specialness of any Otaku’s vacation to Aichi.

At the World Cosplay Summit, you can take on the role of your favourite character

How can a city end up as the Cosplay World Headquarters? Simple! By gathering the best cosplayers from around the world onto a single platform to compete for the title of World Cosplay Champion. In 2003, the World Cosplay Summit was a modest gathering of a few international cosplayers in a hotel conference room. The largest cosplay event of its sort in the world, it expanded steadily and consistently.

Once a year, in Nagoya, cosplayers from all around Japan and the rest of the world congregate to display their costumes and take selfies with one another. Each year, a contest to determine the World Cosplay Champion is held, with the top teams (chosen through preliminary local rounds) having the honour of competing to represent their nation or region. With the removal of entrance requirements, we anticipate a sizable international cosplayer presence at the World Cosplay Summit 2023, which is scheduled to take place in early August. A wonderful idea would be to participate while dressed to the nines.
