For India, August 15 means Independence Day, but for the Indian Gaming Community, it means, the fate of BGMI will be decided. The two weeks deadline that the government of India had given Krafton comes to an end that day. To recall, BGMI was delisted from Google PlayStore and App Store on July 28, 2022. The government has temporarily banned the game and removed it from the play store and app store due to data sharing with China, which comes under Section 69A of the law. Is There A BGMI Unban Date?

While the future is not decided yet, but the verdict will be out on August 15, if not soon. The fate of many, and a whole thriving industry is relying on this one decision. Many streamers and Esports Athletes are hopeful that the game will make a comeback soon. On the other side, PUBG New State is also beginning to gain popularity. Many Esports Athletes are beginning that grind, and soon a roadmap will also be introduced for an Esports ecosystem.

Is BGMI Banned With 384 Other Apps Banned By Indian Government?

The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajiv Chandrashekhar, provided this information in a written response to a question posed by Rodmal Nagar in the Lok Sabha. The member had asked whether the government has identified any app sending information outside the country and if any such app is detected then whether they have been banned?

Replying to the question in Lok Sabha, Chandrasekhar said, “Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has identified 348 mobile applications which were collecting users’ information and transmitting it in an unauthorised manner to servers located outside the country for profiling.” 

What Does The Government Say About BGMI Ban?

While there is no official statment from the Indian government, spokespersons from the government have been giving interviews to news channels about BGMI and the ban. Senior MEITY officials discussed how many Indian agencies examined the well-known game several times before sending their findings to the government.

As far as BGMI is concerned, a malicious code was found in the app. Besides that, BGMI also asked for a lot permissions. These rights are vulnerable to abuse since compromised saved user data can be utilised for location monitoring, network harm, and microphone and camera surveillance.

Another official also added that many Chinese apps have been re-launched in the country as “old wine in a new bottle.”
