As the developers keep emphasizing, Apex Legends is basically a team-based game. All of its modes are created in a way that players enjoy their victories as a team. This makes the game stand out from other battle royale titles that push players to win alone.

While many like taking on challenges with a squad, there are a lot of players who might be tired of teaming up with random players and want to win games themselves. There are several reasons why players would like to go solo, despite Apex developers encouraging them the way around.

Can you play the game solo?

During season two’s Iron Crown event, players were able to participate in a limited-time mode named Solos. Here, players dropped into the standard battle royale without a team and attempted to get their hands on the crown solo. The mode is yet to reappear since then.

Respawn’s design director Evan Nikolich said he doesn’t believe a “solo-only mode has a future in Apex at this time.” He explained the company is more focused on the game’s several team-based modes and bringing new ways to play with others. “We are constantly working towards making it the best team-based experience possible,” he shared.

There’s a workaround

We might not see a dedicated solos mode in Apex, but that might not be a bad thing. For players looking to get into a match without any teammates, they can try unticking the “Fill Teammates” button if they are playing unranked.

Players might not be alone every time, but they’ll have a higher chance of dropping on the map without a squad. This puts players at a disadvantage against other squads of two and three members, but that’s the only way to try the game “solo.” Players should note that in a ranked battle royale and all Arenas modes, they won’t be able to uncheck “Fill Teammates.”
